Body glow routine guide: scrub, oil, seal

A body glow is built the same way as a face routine — exfoliate, hydrate, then seal. Twice a week is enough for scrubbing; the oil and lotion steps are for every day.

  1. Step 1

Scrub twice a week, on damp skin

Massage a sugar or salt scrub in circles over damp skin, focusing on knees, elbows and heels. Rinse warm — it lifts dull, flaky skin so oil can actually absorb.

  2. Step 2

Rinse and pat, do not rub dry

Leave the skin slightly damp. Oils and lotions spread further and hold more water on damp skin than on bone-dry skin.

  3. Step 3

Oil while you are still damp

Warm two or three pumps of body oil between your palms and press it in from ankles upwards. Give it two minutes before you dress.

  4. Step 4

    Treat the dry patches

A richer healing lotion or cream over very dry legs, elbows and heels, layered on top of the oil where you need it most.

  5. Step 5

    Add shimmer last, for events

Mist or press a shimmer oil over collarbones, shoulders and shins only, once the base layers have settled. Less is more in photos.

  6. Step 6

    Protect exposed skin

Any brightening work on tone needs sun protection on arms, chest and legs, or dark patches simply return.

Body care ingredient guide: what to look for

Vitamin C
Brightens uneven tone and dark patches on arms, legs and knees with regular use.
Collagen
Holds water at the surface so skin feels plumper and looks smoother in the light.
Shea butter
A rich occlusive for very dry or cracked skin — best as the final sealing layer.
Coconut and sweet almond oil
Light, fast-absorbing carrier oils that soften without leaving a heavy film.
Sugar vs salt scrub
Sugar grains are rounder and gentler, good for sensitive skin. Salt is sharper and better for rough heels, knees and elbows.
Eucalyptus and citrus oils
Aromatic actives that leave skin feeling clean and fresh; use on the body, never near the eyes.
Mica (shimmer)
The light-reflecting mineral in glow mists. It sits on the surface, so it rinses off easily.
Glycerin
A humectant that draws water into the skin — why lotions work best applied to damp skin.
